bb.q Chicken is a global Korean fried chicken franchise that has recently opened several locations around Toronto. I recently visited the one at Yonge & Bloor.

The smell of fried chicken hits you as soon as you walk in. The restaurant isn't big, but there's a decent amount of comfortable seating, and the staff were friendly and attentive.

The Menu

Chicken is the main event, of course. There are classics like Golden Fried Chicken and Secret Sauced Chicken, and more unusual flavours like Soy & Honey Garlic.

I ordered the Cheesling Chicken ($22): fried chicken covered in a seasoning made from mascarpone and cheddar cheese powder. You can get it as wings (1.2 lb), bone-in (8 pieces) or boneless (1.2 lb). I went with bone-in because I think chicken cooked on the bone has more flavour.

How It Tasted

It looked great when it arrived. The chicken was crispy outside, juicy inside and still hot from the fryer. There was plenty of cheese powder, which tastes savoury and a little sweet and reminded me of Cheetos, my favourite childhood snack.

To make it proper chimaek, the Korean pairing of chicken and beer, I ordered a Stella Artois (a 5% Belgian lager) with it.

The brand says its focus is quality, and the name bb.q stands for "Best of the Best Quality." You can taste it. The chicken didn't feel greasy, and the ingredients tasted fresh.

Final Thoughts

The food was delicious, the space was inviting and the staff were great. If you're near Yonge & Bloor and want Korean fried chicken, I highly recommend bb.q Chicken.
