DeCourses Café is a charming little spot I keep going back to. It's on Lake Shore Blvd W in south Etobicoke, with great breakfast, specialty coffee and a pretty little dining room. The staff are friendly and the service is quick, so you feel welcome every time.

Inside DeCourses Café

Bacon Benny

There's a lot on the menu. On this visit we had the Bacon Benny, French toast, a brewed coffee and a latte.

The Bacon Benny stole the show. It's bacon and two poached eggs with hollandaise on a baked butter croissant, served with seasoned potatoes and salad. The croissant adds richness and crunch, which lifts the classic Benny, and the fresh salad balances it out. I highly recommend it.

Long Brunch with bacon, fried eggs, potatoes and toast

Above: the Long Brunch from a different visit, with three strips of bacon, two fried eggs, seasoned potatoes, buttered toast and mixed greens.

French Toast

The French Toast puts a twist on the classic. Instead of soft bread, they use two thick slices of artisan bread, topped with house-made blueberry compote, whipped cream, pure maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon. It was really satisfying. I love that they add a special touch to every dish.

The Coffee

The coffee deserves its own mention. DeCourses roasts its own blends, with organic, fair-trade, ethically sourced beans. I always get a latte, and it's smooth and full of flavour without being bitter or watery.

Good to Know

The café is cozy and small, with a lovely brunch vibe. It's best for groups of two to four. For five or more, book ahead.

Final Thoughts

DeCourses Café is a must for a great breakfast in the west end. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly and the room is cozy. Whether you live nearby or are just visiting, it's worth the trip. We can't wait to go back.
