Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ontario electricity plan is cheapest?
It depends on when you use power. Ultra-Low Overnight is usually cheapest if you can move a lot of use (like charging an EV or running the dishwasher) to 11 pm to 7 am and avoid 4 pm to 9 pm on weekdays. Tiered can be cheaper if you are home all day on weekdays. Time-of-Use is in the middle for most homes.
What are the Ontario electricity rates for November 2026?
From November 1, 2026: Time-of-Use is 9.1¢ off-peak, 14.6¢ mid-peak, and 18.9¢ on-peak. Ultra-Low Overnight is 3.7¢ overnight, 9.1¢ weekend off-peak, 14.6¢ mid-peak, and 37.7¢ on-peak. Tiered is 11.2¢ for the first 1000 kWh a month in winter and 13.2¢ after that.
How do I switch to Ultra-Low Overnight or Tiered pricing?
Contact your local utility, like Toronto Hydro, Alectra, or Hydro One. Most let you switch online, and you can switch back later. The change usually starts on your next billing cycle.
Does this include delivery and other charges?
No. This calculator only compares the electricity (commodity) part of your bill. Delivery and regulatory charges are the same whichever plan you choose, and the Ontario Electricity Rebate and HST are a percentage of your bill, so none of them change which plan is cheapest.
